The Model Drawing / Unforgettable neighbourhoods, a solo exhibition by Dutch artist Bart Lodewijks (NL b. 1972) is the culmination of a three-year public drawing project in Sligo, commissioned by The Model. In Sligo, the artist chose to work in the neighbourhood of Doorly Park, Riverside and Garavogue Villas, where he returned many times between 2012 and 2015. Images and texts come together in the new publication  Sligo Drawings, made in collaboration with independent art publisher ROMA Publications.

Bart Lodewijks will intervene in the exhibition space the same way he did in Sligo’s private homes. His chalk drawings will appear in between images from his archive of similar projects in The Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, UK, Germany, Curaçao and Brazil, realised since 2000. These images, including images from Sligo, are re-printed into a series of newspapers in a free, limited edition. In the exhibition, the artist opens up his archive of publications and other printed matter, drawings and notebooks, including several films about the artist’s work by filmmakers Griet Teck, Robbrecht Desmet, Gunter Blokken and photographer Huig Bartels.
Curated by Marie Louise Blaney and Danielle van Zuijlen.

This project is made possible by the generous support of The Community Foundation of Ireland and Mondriaan Fund, The Netherlands.

Supported in part by Creative Europe Desk Ireland – Culture Office. A representative from the Culture office will be available at the opening to meet with organisations.
