Jack B. Yeats: Painted Universe

This exhibition of Yeats oils features work from his final and most successful period of artistic production. From political works executed in the 1920s to the great masterpieces of the late 1940s, this exhibition weaves its way through the dominant concerns of Yeats’s artistic practice. When viewed together with A Broadside one can trace the beginnings of the characters that captivate the artists throughout his working life – the sailor, the clown, the pirate, the outlaw and the wayfarer. These figures, who are born in A Broadside become the characters that populate the painted universe of this extraordinary artist.
