Punk's Not Dead: (Irish Premiere)

Dir: Vladimir Blazevski, 104 minutes, Macedonia, 2011

The protagonists of this black comedy are punks, who have deliberately remained at the margins of Macedonian society, the story revolves around Mirsa, who is a forty-year old Macedonian punk singer, who still lives with his mother. He gets the idea to reform the band after 17 years and the reunion is to take place at some bizarre ‘multi-cultural-happening,’ in the city of Debar. A punchy independent road movie about people for whom punk isn’t just music, it’s a way of life. Somewhere between a road-movie, black comedy, documentary, drama and all made on a shoestring…. which fits entirely in with this film’s punk aesthetic.
