Punk lives on in Belfast: Shellshock Rock

Introduction from John T. Davis and Terri Hooley

Shellshock Rock.
Dir: John T. Davis. 46 mins, Irel./UK, 1979.

The director of Shell Shock Rock, John T. Davis will be attending with Terri Hooley, founder of Good Vibrations records.

The young musicians in John T. Davis’s 1979 documentary are the members of bands such as the Undertones, Stiff Little Fingers and Rudi — are dealing with a different world than their more famous counterparts in England, such as the Sex Pistols and the Clash. Brought up with the Troubles, these Protestant and Catholic rockers are looking more to avoid political trouble. Could this be punk rock as escapism?

The Screening will be followed by a Q&A Session with Terri Hooley, the godfather of the Belfast Punk scene and founder of Good Vibrations records and director of Shellshock Rock, John T. Davis (Start time approx. 7pm)
