The Model Cinema: Relaunch
The Model Cinema re-opens in a celebratory fashion on Thurs Sept 27th at 7pm.
Presented in collaboration with The Irish Film Institute, The Model will once again begin to screen the best in independent, Irish and international films on new release.
The evening is kicking off with a wine reception, an assortment of delicious snacks and live music, followed by a highly recommended IFI selected film.Searching for Sugarman. Film-maker Bendjelloul sets out to find Rodriguez, a staggeringly talented performer from Detroit, discovering along the way that this total unknown in the U.S. had caught on in a big way in South Africa, where his anti-establishment anthems struck a chord with disaffected white liberals, who bought his records in such numbers he outsold Elvis!
Fans insist that Rodriguez’s career ended spectacularly when he burned himself to death on stage. Could it really be true?
It’s an amazing story, which proves just as life affirming as The Buena Vista Social Club. Unmissable. The Irish Times****
