Music

Species Counterpoint, 7pm & 8.30pm

The project involves the creation of a 25 minute soundtrack which will be an exploration of animal and plant species under threat of extinction in County Sligo because of the effects of climate change. Interviews undertaken with local people regarding causes of species extinction, fragments of the interviews will then form part of a soundtrack which will also include field recordings and some recorded musical elements from the soloists. In addition to this, a score will be created by Dutch saxophonist Ties Mellema and Sligo based saxophonist Cathal Roche. Produced in collaboration with Creative Sligo.

Between the two performances Cathal Roche will perform his sound installation – The Whispering Gallery from 7:30pm
