World-renowned Swedish guitarist Andreas Öberg was born in Stockholm in 1978. As a teenage Swedish tennis prodigy, Andreas had to make a tough decision: whether to continue his sport or pursue his true love of playing guitar. Fortunately he chose the latter, and his agility and grace on the fret board have made him one of the most fluent young stylists today. He has worked with Les Paul, Toots Thielemans, John Patitucci, Bireli Lagrene, Richard Galliano, Martin Taylor, Jimmy Rosenberg, David Kikoski, Bucky Pizzarelli, Lewis Nash, Joey DeFrancesco, Mark Murphy, Stochelo Rosenberg and John Pizzarelli.
Possessing the rare talent to master many different music styles, Andreas Öberg’s obvious energy and brilliant technique constantly impresses listeners all over the world. Frequently appearing and performing on TV and radio shows, Andreas is also regularly featured in international music and guitar magazines.
Öberg has recorded four solo albums and one DVD. ‘My Favorite Guitars’ was released on Resonance Records, US, in 2008, reaching number 22 in the US radio jazz chart. His new album ‘Six String Evolution’ was released on Resonance Records in 2010. The album features John Patitucci, Dave Kikoski, Lewis Nash and special guests. Andreas was also a soloist on the album ‘Resonance Big Band’, reaching number 5 in July 2009 and winning a Grammy.
In 2010 Öberg toured Ireland with a quartet featuring SJP’s own David Lyttle and “the other Andreas” – 13 year old prodigy Andreas Varady. He looks forward to renewing his acquaintance with young Andreas at SJP 2011.
Öberg’s “Guitar Universe” online guitar academy is his latest venture, providing a huge range of online lessons and personal advice for aspiring jazz guitarists.
