Maria Doyle Kennedy

With support by Glenn Cal

Tickets €15/€12

One of the most remarkably gifted and versatile female artists ever to come out of Ireland, Maria Doyle Kennedy has forged a name and held her own in diverse arenas from film and TV to her career as a singer-songwriter. An accomplished and talented singer, Maria Doyle Kennedy has won global acclaim and fans for what The Irish Hot Press has called “The finest voice this country has ever produced”.

The Ireland native will be performing music from her critically acclaimed catalogue including 2001’s debut Charm, 2004’s limited edition Skullcover and 2007’s Mutter. Mutter was a collection of ghost songs, avant folk songs, eerie fairytales and cinematic snapshots of bedraggled actresses walking barefoot on Mulholland Drive. It was also one of the most bewitching records of 2007. Maria’s newest album with her husband Kieran, 2011’s The Storms Are On The Ocean might well have been named GrandMutter.

A collection of Appalachian standards dressed in beautifully darned gowns, its spiritual siblings are Plant’s Band of Joy, PJ’s White Chalk and Gillian Welch’s stark daguerreotypes. Here are courtly tunes, murder ballads, child ballads and death fugues all beautifully backlit by Kieran Kennedy’s acoustic guitar, banjo and piano.
