Project for the reclamation of the Irish Body; Curated by Jennifer Walshe

For Culture Night Sligo 2018 The Model is pleased to present a series of events curated by Jennifer Walshe in response to her solo exhibition Aisteach. The galleries that host Jennifer Walshe’s exhibition will be filled with music and movement. Dancers will offer free, short group classes in a wide variety of dances and physical practices, all aimed at absolute beginners.

All workshops run for approximately 25 minutes and all are designed for absolute beginners.

20:15 Gallery C (upstairs)

ANÁIL: An introductory session for the exploration of the voice paying particular attention on the
breath. The session will include both exploration of this individually as well as making sounds
together as a group. Led by Robbie Blake.

20:15 East Gallery (upstairs)

CROÍ FÉIN: Warm up your body and breath, using Body Weather and Butoh techniques. This is
a gentle introduction and awakening. Led by Natasha Bourke.

20:45 Gallery C (upstairs)

CROÍ EILE: A brief introduction to body manipulation using internal visualisation to transform
your body’s landscape. An approach where each individual is encouraged to find their own
movement signature and let it shine through. Led by Natasha Bourke.

21:15 Atrium

CLUICHE: Play and games are at the core of all movement practice.
This workshop explores how even absolute beginners can become part of group choreography
through games. Led by Jennifer Walshe.

_Robbie Blake is a vocalist, conductor and composer working nationally in Ireland and
internationally. Robbie’s practice is highly collaborative regularly working with choreographers, visual artists
and composers to create dynamic and unique music performance.

Natasha Bourke is a Cork-based Interdisciplinary artist of Irish/Dutch descent with an extensive movement &
performance background. Her practice incorporates Installation, Archive, Drawing, Live Sound, Film &
Performance as languages to contemplate themes of self and society such as identity, institution, transience,
perception, pathos and play.

Jennifer Walshe is a composer and vocalist who has performed all over the world. Jenny is particularly
interested in the natural voice – untrained, unadorned, raw and beautiful, and how simple instructions can
produce complex results when people work together.
