Dinosaur is one of the most vital and creative new ensembles in the UK today. Led by trumpeter & composer Laura Jurd, the band, featuring star keyboardist Elliot Galvin & the exciting young rhythm section of Conor Chaplin & Corrie Dick, has performed throughout the UK and Europe including the Berlin Jazz Festival, Jazz Sur Son 31 in Toulouse and Jazzahead in Bremen.
In early 2016, Laura signed an exclusive album deal with Edition Records for the release of Dinosaur’s debut album ‘Together, As One’. Blending elements of folk, jazz and rock, the music is formidable and compelling. With the release of ‘Together, As One’, Dinosaur is destined to build upon their fast growing International reputation and fan base.
BBC New Generation Artist Laura Jurd is an award-winning trumpet player, composer and bandleader. Highly active throughout the UK scene, Laura has developed a formidable reputation as one of the most creative young musicians to emerge in recent years. The exciting appeal of her band Dinosaur is evident for all to hear, with Jazzwise describing their live set as “thrilling” and DOWNBEAT (USA) praising their “impressive” performance at the 2016 Berlin Jazz Festival.
Jurd is a musician who “embraces melody, harmony and groove as much as she provokes with blasts of dissonance and gutsy angularity” (All About Jazz) and it is her ability to combine the sweet with the abrasive, the soothing with the fiery, that makes her music so compelling. In 2015 Laura received the Parliamentary Jazz Award for ‘Instrumentalist of the Year’ and in the past has been shortlisted for a BASCA British Composer Award, received the Dankworth Prize for Jazz Composition and the Worshipful Company of Musician’s Young Jazz Musician of the Year award.
