Bernard McDonagh

Born 1924, Sligo, Ireland

Bernard McDonagh is a landscape painter working predominantly in watercolour and oils. He was the founder and director of the Sligo School of Landscape Painting in 1968 and has taught at the National College of Art and Design, The Sligo Institute of Technology and St. Angela’s, Sligo. A regular exhibitor with the Watercolour Society of Ireland and the RHA, he has received several public commissions for murals and portraits. They include: The Irish Embassy to the Vatican, Rome, The Irish College, Rome, St. Patrick’s College, Rome, The Monsignor Farrell High School, New York, The Medical Centre, Monterey, California University College Cork and Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Drogheda. Portraits Include: Charles J. Haughey, Joseph Brennan T.D, John B. Keane and Albert Reynolds. File contains newspaper clippings, photographs and correspondence between Barbara Dawson, Ethna Waldron and the artist, an artists statement and images of the artists work. File also contains an illustrated catalogue published by the Sligo School of Landscape Painting 1976.
