Mary Cottenham Yeats (née White), known to all as Cottie, was a fellow art student of Jack B. Yeats in London. She was a fellow student at Chiswick School of Art and came from a well-to-do family with Isle of Man connections. They got married in 1894. Although they lived in Devon, they came over to Ireland often and both contributed designs to the Dun Emer Guild the best known of which were the banners for the Cathedral in Loughrea.
