A Special Invitation for Schools

The Model’s is delighted to announce the launch of its Films for Schools programme this Winter at our new digital cinema. Beginning this 24 Nov. with the animated film Persepolis, based on the graphic novel of the same name which is recommended for French Senior Cycle.

Budding filmmakers shouldn’t miss the December 2nd screening of 32A, which will include a discussion with one of the filmmakers, Sligo-based Tommy Weir. 32A is a story set in the “in-between” time of a girl’s life, when she is no longer a child and not yet a woman, suitable for English Senior Cycle and Transition Year and is now on the Leaving Cert English syllabus for 2012.

The final screening for schools at The Model this winter will be a screening of City of War: The Story of John Rabe on December 9th. This is a true-story account of a German businessman John Rabe (Ulrich Tukur) German businessman and member of the Nazi party who saved more than 200,000 Chinese during the Nanjing massacre in 1937-38 and is recommended for German Senior Cycle.
The Model also offers guided tours for primary, secondary and third level students of the Niland collection and contemporary exhibitions every Wednesday. Many local schools have already availed of this opportunity and have especially enjoyed The Model’s current exhibition Angelology, which includes a large-scale fallen angel taking over The Model’s atrium.

Advance booking is required for both the film programme and the school tours. Price per student to film screenings is a very accessible €4 per student. Study guides for the films are available from The Model’s website. The Model’s exhibition tours are free; a minimum of two weeks advance notice is required.
