On Biutiful

I saw Biutiful in The Model last night. Biutiful was given one star in last week’s Sunday Times. Whoever ranked the film there really has a poor conception of cinema, as this film is an absolute masterpiece. Its images will not leave my mind for a very long time. The aesthetic, the narrative and the acting were exceptional, and the theme of the film, a very risky one to under-take, was brilliantly conceived. Javier Bardem is astonishing in his role, as are the other actors around him.

And I feel a bit angry that there may be people, who are genuine cinephiles, who may miss this film because of poor, even cynical judgement by a critic. That said, I encourage everyone to see it.
