The Model filled with creatives and animation this weekend
Lightbox Animation Festival kicked off today at The Model. The rolling Darklight and Synth Eastwood programme are running in the Cinema Northwest Cinemobile, which is parked up right outside the centre, as well as on The Model’s new digital screen.
This afternoon, despite the lovely sunshine, we had a great turn out for the launch of Lightbox. Paul Young from Cartoon Saloon, David Kitt and the Synth Eastwood gang all arrived just in time too, and we then all headed into The Model theatre for Animators Anonymous. I got to stick around and hear from Mike Ahern from D.A.D.D.Y.. He walked us through the early stages of D.A.D.D.Y. from the first videos they produced for War Lords of Pez which featured on No Disco. Then on to the video they produced for Jape’s ‘Floating’:
Which then led on to working with Bloc Party using available footage from Ray Harryhausen’s Little Red Riding Hood (available due to lapsed copyright):
Tonight we’re looking forward to the Synth Eastwood gig which promises to be an amazing night – blending music, animation, technology and audience development. David Kitt and Shocko will be joining the gang for DJ sets for an evening that is set to last long into the night.
At 12 mid-day tomorrow their is an industry roundtable chaired by Steve Woods which looks set to be an exciting discussion on the state of Irish animation especially considering the recent acknowledgments internationally.
