The Model presents Art for Blind Records: Oranges

The Model is delighted to collaborate with Sligo-based DIY record label Art for Blind on a series of contemporary alternative Irish music. Art For Blind is a DIY record label record operated by Edel Doherty and Daniel Guest. Since partnering with The Model, Art for Blind has curated a successful music series that saw the label source and commission major musical talent from across Ireland to perform right here in The Model’s black-box theatre. The first gig in this year’s series will see Dublin based group Oranges perform at 9pm on Fri. 16 Mar. Oranges comprise three musicians who’ve been involved in Ireland’s underground scene for years. G. Duffy on vocals and guitars, M.T. Durnin on bass, synth & vocals, and E. Kelly on drums. Their sound recalls The Fall’s abrasive, minimalist approach to the rock’n’roll palette.

Emer Mc Garry, Curator and Interim Director of The Model, is excited about the prospect of combining The Model’s penchant for visual art with Art for Blind’s musical expertise. ‘We are multi-disciplinary and we are lead by contemporary visual art. We have a collection of national significance and our other disciplines include art, music, public participation and cinema. We have a particular interest in programming that combines all those things. We love programming that integrates music with visual art and gives audiences a chance to participate and give us feedback and open a dialogue.

The second date in the series has just been announced! Maria Somerville, an Irish producer, singer and songwriter will take the stage on Sat. 21 Apr along supporting act Owen Kilfeather, a composer and artist.
