Informal Music Afternoon in September

Sun. 1 Sep. 2024, 1 – 3pm
€8pp, children go free

Informal Music Afternoons are a series of monthly events, presented in partnership with Sligo Baroque Orchestra, where an eclectic mix of music is performed in a welcoming format in The Model’s Atrium space. The Informal Music Afternoon is an ideal way to spend a calm Sunday afternoon. The idea behind this event is to make classical music accessible for all, by means of an informal concert with a relaxed atmosphere in a cafe-style setting. Musicians perform classical works in addition to a non-classical section – often folk, traditional or jazz.

The September Informal Music Afternoon includes a programme of classical masterpieces and contemporary compositions. The Conlee Quartet is made up of students Leo Tarrant, Leah Higgiins violins, Conor Canon viola, Conor Flynn cello, all students of Sligo Academy of Music. They will perform Mozart's string quartet K 157.

Aileen Cahill will perform Schubert's G major piano sonata D 894 and a Nocturn by the Chinese composer Yue Song.

And acclaimed, Sligo-based singer-songwriter Ian Bordley will present a themed programme of “Story-songs”.

Ósta@TheModel will be open from 12 noon serving refreshments and a selection of lite bites. The concerts start at 1pm, but we recommend coming at 12:30pm so you can enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine from the wonderful café prior.
