In 2020, our electic, diverse and multidisciplinary artistic programme brings acclaimed Irish and international practitioners to Sligo and its communities, in dynamic and vibrant exhibitions, events, residencies and public engagements.
We are proud to announce two ambitious new commissions.Turner-Prize nominated artist, Ciara Phillips (CA/IE) will explore the possibilities of communal and solo print-making both at The Model and in local communities; while Michael McLoughlin (IE) will respond to Sligo/Leitrim’s unique music ecology, with a particular focus on the Showband Era. A major curated thematic show, The Sea Around Us brings the work of John Akomfrah (GH/GB), Forensic Oceanography (GB) & Susanne M. Winterling (DE) to Ireland for the first time in Spring 2020. We present solo shows with Mary-Ruth Walsh (IE) and Wagner/DeBurca (BR/IE), and continue our partnership with Cairde Visual to support grass-roots artist-led initatives and artists living locally and regionally.
We continue our in-depth work with local communities on Sligo Global Kitchen and our long-term schools’ programme Pop-Up Niland Collection 1x1. Alongside this, we are delighted to announce that as part of an exciting new partnership, we have appointed Andy Parsons as Artist-in Residence in Sligo University Hospital, where he will engage with patients, familes and staff over the coming months. Further talks, screenings, exhibitions and events will be announced in spring.
