Culture Night 2023 at The Model promises to be another colourful night of creativity, art and music. This year we will start off with the opening of ‘The Age / L’Età’ by acclaimed UK artist and winner of the Max Mara Prize Emma Talbot, in what is her first ever Irish solo show. Sligo Global Kitchen will serve delicious food from around the world and the finest contemporary DJs will keep the crowds entertained until late with an eclectic mix of dance and electronic music. All events at Culture Night at The Model are free of charge and there is no need to book in advance.

The Model is proud to present the first Irish solo show of acclaimed UK artist Emma Talbot; a contemporary visual art exhibition which tackles enshrined gender representation in art history through a feminist lens.
Winner of the Max Mara Prize, and one of the highlights of the 2022 Venice Biennale, Talbot’s work is known for confronting the modern world’s most pressing issues from the environment and gender, to the way we communicate with one another. Born in the UK and now based in Italy, Talbot’s work in drawing, painting and sculpture regularly combines the personal and political.
About the artist
British artist Emma Talbot began her artistic career by studying at the Kent Institute of Art and Design in 1987, followed by the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design in 1988, and The Royal College of Art where she graduated in 1995. Since then she has exhibited worldwide, with solo exhibitions at Transition Gallery (London), Freud Museum (London), Galerie Onrust (Amsterdam), Arcadia Missa (New York), and Petra Rinck Galerie (Düsseldorf), and group shows at Turner Contemporary (Margate), Walker Art Gallery (Liverpool), Art Gallery of Western Australia (Perth), and Charlie Dutton Gallery (Beijing), amongst many more.
In 1995 Talbot won a scholarship to the British School in Rome, and in 1996 was awarded the Bob and Susan Kasen Summers Studio Award. In 2020 Talbot was awarded the Max Mara prize which supports UK-based female artists and as a result saw the artist create a new body of work which was shown at the Whitechapel Gallery (London) and Collezione Maramotti (Italy) in 2021. Talbot's work features in the Venice Biennale 2022, and currently in collections such as the Saatchi Collection, David Roberts Collection, J Sainsbury PLC, Unilever and Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Art Gallery of Western Australia (Perth).

Kelly-Anne Byrne
Kelly-Anne Byrne is one of Ireland’s most loved and hardest working DJs. The recent news of Kelly-Anne Byrne’s return to Ireland from a hiatus in New York has thrilled the music-loving audience who tuned into her successful late night music show on Today FM. Whether it’s a disco classic, a forgotten gem, an acoustic ballad or soul anthem, Kelly-Anne Byrne’s got you covered.
Kelly-Anne has been entertaining crowds for many years with headline slots at all of Ireland’s festivals, including Electric Picnic, Longitude, Indiependence, Sea Sessions, Metropolis, All Together Now and Forbidden Fruit. Kelly-Anne appears regularly at Dublin’s top nightclubs Mother and The Workman’s Club. She has supported Chic, Dave Lee, Dimitri from Paris, Black Pumas, Paul Weller, Peter Hook, LCD Soundsystem and Mark Ronson.
Tara B
Tara B has been DJ’ing over the years across an eclectic mix of eras and genres. Formerly Miss Honey, she co-ran the Miss Honey’s Speakeasy nights, playing music from the roaring 20’s and 30’s in Tobergal Lane. She has played soul, funk, disco, and disco house over the years in various pubs, clubs and parties. She co-founded Toast, a pop-up night of electronic music where she plays a range of electronic tunes including techno and tech house and anything else that works!
GASH Collective
GASH Collective is an Ireland-based platform focused on supporting female, trans, queer, non-binary and other underrepresented people in music production and DJing. The line-up for Culture Night will feature DJs Hewan Mulugeta, Laurence Kapinga and ANIMWAL.
Hewan Mulugeta
Hewan is a Dublin resident DJ, born and grew up in Ethiopia. Her music selections focuses on early 60s and 70s Golden age of Ethiopian music era and all funky and irresistible dancing grooves and rhythms from all over Africa.
She has been playing supporting local and international artists at different venues festivals in Ireland. She is also a resident DJ on Dublin Digital Radio with a monthly radio show called Ethiogrooves.
Laurence Kapinga
Within a relatively short amount of time, Laurence Kapinga (aka StrangeLove), has proven himself as one of Ireland's up and coming producers to keep an eye on. Within a year of releasing music independently with his collaborative Alternative RnB project Negro Impacto and making his solo debut under Martyn’s 3024 mentorship compilation “It Was Always There Vol. 1” with the melodic and bass heavy track “Headrest”, Laurence has since had the opportunity to demonstrate his dance-focused-genre-bending productions and mixes within clubs, festivals as well as radio (BBC Radio 1, RTE 2FM, The Lot Radio, NTS, Worldwide FM). Although it is still early days for the up-and-coming producer, the momentum he is going at makes for a promising future ahead.
ANIMWAL
Polish Female DJ based in Cork. She started learning music production in 2019 and released her first single ‘Find My Way’ in 2021. In 2022 ANIMWAL started her adventure with DJing. Since then she played in numerous venues around Cork. In March she organised an electronic music night ‘Glitter Groove’ with a few fellow female DJs which was a big success. She is passionate about electronic music and loves mixing different genres. ANIMWAL is currently working on a personal music project as well as collaborating with other artists in Ireland.
