Cian Ó Cíobháin DJ, music journalist and broadcaster with RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta is set to DJ at The Model Sligo on Friday 26th April to mark the opening of a new solo exhibition by unique visual artist, musician and composer Richard Bolhuis.
Richard Bolhuis is creating original pieces for The Model through an immersive, interdisciplinary ‘total installation’. Composed of soundscapes, film-loops, drawings and paintings, this installation will spread over The Model’s windows, walls, floors and outdoor spaces to create a transformed and immersive audience experience. Bolhuis previously created location-specific installations for the Van Gogh Museum (NL), Groninger Museum (NL) Hundred Years Gallery (UK) and Le Guess Who festival.
The exhibition presented by The Model in partnership with the Museum De Buitenplaats in the Netherlands, and with the support of the Mondriaan Fund, will open at 8pm on Friday 26 April, with a reception and a solo performance by Richard Bolhuis, followed by a DJ set by Ó Cíobháin. Admission is free.
Cian Ó Cíobháin has been presenting world-renowned, alternative music radio show An Taobh Tuathail twenty years this year. He has long been driven to find beautiful and sometimes extreme music, from almost any era or genre, to share with his listeners, and over the past two decades the show has attracted a loyal worldwide following. Cian’s listeners are a vital part of the show, often alerting him to tracks or artists that might not have previously been on his radar.
Speaking ahead of his performance in Sligo, Cian said, “The friendship between Rich and I is one of those that was made possible by this Information Age. We’ve never met in person but have exchanged hundreds of emails over the years. I’m not sure how this came to be, but I’m guessing that he may have sent me one of his compositions, which I subsequently played on the radio. Since then, I’ve played countless more tracks of his and would consider myself a big fan. I look forward very much to meeting him in Sligo.”
Admission is FREE.
