Due to the ongoing political situation in Iran, Medium Religion artist Barbad Golshiri will not be able to participate in tomorrow’s Symposium Religious Challenges, Challenging Religions.
We are still really keen to have Barbad’s input, most especially giving the current political unrest in Iran. Indeed only today did the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei address the people of Iran with the background of blue which Barbad was to speak about clearly visible:
Director/Curator Seamus Kealy has been in close contact with Barbad this week and he will deliver Barbad’s paper “Hallowed Beams of Blue” where Barbad was to discuss the ideological apparatus of post-revolution Iran, concentrating on television where a blue screen/curtain is used as a backdrop behind major political scenes broadcasted on Islamic TV channels. Barbad has sent a series of images and a film which will be projected onto a screen while Seamus is speaking.
The other speakers: Professor Hubert Knoblauch, Dr Felix Murchadha and William Blair will still all be in attendence and Anna Nolan will Chair with ample periods for questions and answers.
This major international symposium is free of charge and is produced by The Model on the occasion of Medium Religion and is supported by Goethe Institut Irland. The Symposium begins at 2.30pm tomorrow, Saturday 20th June, and will finish at 6pm/6.30pm. It will be held in the Canis Major of the Clarion Hotel- see our website for directions and a map.
