This November The Model is delighted to be hosting the now annual ‘Divas for DVAS’, a night celebrating women with all proceeds going towards the safe house project by DVAS. DVAS (Domestic Violence Advocacy Service) is a local service, protecting women affected by domestic violence throughout Sligo, Leitrim and West Cavan.
The support for this annual event has once again been astounding – both DVAS and The Model would like to sincerely thank all performers for agreeing to play for free in support of the charity.
‘Divas for DVAS’ features an all star line up with some of Ireland’s (and predominantly hailing from Sligo) most versatile female talents. Our ‘divas’ this year include Aileen Concannon with Eoin Troy, Claudia Schwab, Margo Barrow, YouTube sensations, Sarah Crummy & Deirdre Farrell, Margaret Kilcoyne with Nigel Robinson of Big Papa Blues Band and Mark Conway of (Now retired) Grizzly Dippers. we’re delighted to welcome back Cathy Jordan who generously supported the event last year. This year Cathy will perform – for the first time – together with niece Síofra Jordan, who has also been taking Sligo’s music scene by storm with Blind Fox and the re-formed Wagamuffins (Ex Ragamuffins). Cork based singer songwriter Foxglove who recently wowed audiences at her performance on the acoustic stage at The Model during Sligo Live will make the journey back to Sligo and we will round off the evening with a guest appearance by Berlin based Irish singer -songwriter Nina Hynes.
Nina released her debut album, Staros, to huge critical acclaim in 1999 and has since released a further 2 albums and number of EP’s on her own record label Transplant Records. Nina has appeared on Other Voices, No Disco and The View, has toured internationally and has also supported Roxy Music, Stereolab, Damien Rice and The Frames. She most recently took part in a series of Trailblaze events during Dublin Fringe Festival where she performed with a choir of 101 children to incredible effect.
The vibe will be set by the tunes of Indie DJ Karen Spellman and visuals by Nigel Gallagher in The Model Atrium so come early!
Join us for an excellent evening of entertainment in aid of a very worthy charity.
