The Model would like to thank everyone involved in the successful fundraiser for DVAS that took place on Saturday night last. This year’s divas & divos included Aileen Concannon with Eoin Troy & Seamie McGowan, Claudia Schwab, Margo Barrow with Mark Murphy & Bernard Tohill, Sarah Crummy & Deirdre Farrell, Margaret Kilcoyne with Nigel Robinson and Mark Conway, the Cork based singer songwriter Foxglove, Cathy Jordan who played for the first time with nieces Síofra Jordan, Maria & Deia Carbonnell, supported by Seanan Brennan and Kieran Quinn. The gig was headlined by the incredible Berlin based Irish singer -songwriter Nina Hynes who was joined on stage by a choir for the grand finale. Sligo writer Kati Winter was our Diva MC number 1 and a special thanks also goes to Strandhill local Sarah Middleton and her troop of dancers that brought a big smile to everyone’s faces at the interlude. The energy was fantastic.
Many Sligo businesses showed great support for the event including Ana Faye, Bistro Bianconi, Carraig Donn, The Cat and The Moon, Eala Bhan, Hargadons, Kate’s Kitchen, Lorna Gault, Sligo Acupuncture Clinic and The Wine Buff.
The Model Café also generously donated 10% of their takings from the night towards the charity as did singers Nina Hynes and Foxglove donate a percentage of their CD sales
“A diva is a celebrated female singer; a woman of outstanding talent in the world of opera, and by extension in theatre, cinema and popular music …. “ It’s fair to say that Divas for DVAS delivered what it promised – an exceptional line up featuring women with outstanding talent and there were quite a few divos in there too! All in the name of raising funds for an excellent charity – the Domestic Violence Advocacy Service. DVAS provides an amazing confidential support service to a large number of people who are suffering as a result of domestic violence.Click here for information on DVAS
Both DVAS and The Model wish to thank the performers sincerely for agreeing to perform in aid of the charity and helping to create this wonderful night!
