We are very excited to share the news that Canadian artist Stan Douglas is visiting The Model and Sligo this week, upon invitation by our Director Seamus Kealy.
Douglas, based in Vancouver, Canada, has long been interested in the work of Samuel Beckett. In 1988 he curated Samuel Beckett: Teleplays, eight Beckett works for film and television. In 1991, Douglas produced Monodramas a series of short videos for television broadcasting, based on his studies of Beckett’s teleplays.Developed for television, these 30- to 60-second video works were broadcast nightly in British Columbia in 1992 for three weeks.
As an artist, he excels in incorporating new media technologies in his works, which always seem infected with popular genres. His art as been shown everywhere from Korea to South Africa to Venezuela. The Pompidou in Paris launched a major retrospective of his work, and he is a regular name at the Whitney Biennial. Britian’s prestigious Phaidon press recently issued a book of his work, while naming him one of the top twenty contemporary artists in the world.
Seamus brought Stan around the building and our current shows Dorm and Portraits from the Niland Collection.
